Far Cry Primal

Far Cry at night can be pretty creepy

Re: Far Cry Primal

I'm hearing generally positive feedback for Primal. I'm looking forward to it. I wonder how much I'll miss guns and grenades.

Re: Far Cry Primal

If anything, it's a different setting and something different.
Any way you cut it, it's not guns anymore. You have to rely on your senses more, use the environment around you. It may be Far Cry still but it isn't the same.

Re: Far Cry Primal

That's fine by me. I just hope it doesn't border on cheesy with the controlling animals aspect and whatnot. Like they overcompensated for no bullets and explosions.

Re: Far Cry Primal

The guy is slightly annoying, but a good preview on what to expect from Far Cry Primal

Re: Far Cry Primal

The Bow is consistently one of the most fun weapons to use in any video game.  I actually think getting rid of guns isn't a loss at all, especially if they can do things with a bow that games haven't done yet (in terms of what sort of shots you can take, upgraded abilities, ammo, etc.)

I agree, for some reason using a bow is very satisfying.

Re: Far Cry Primal

Bows are fun, but they're not exactly reactionary weapons like a gun. If you can't invest the time needed for the bow to do its job, you're pretty much screwed.

Re: Far Cry Primal

I'm still getting it. MGS V isn't scratching any kind of itch. And I'll pick up The Division too.

Re: Far Cry Primal

Definitely the most intense Far Cry so far. You get the feeling of always being hunted. Right now being hunted by a Saber tooth tiger while hunting other guys.

Alright really enjoying this. The environment is intense, night time is intense and I love the crafting aspect. The Far cry vibe really fits with the setting

Re: Far Cry Primal

Glad to hear that. I'll be playing this as soon as I can tonight. I probably won't get much time in this evening depending on when I start.

Cool would love to know your thoughts. It's a much more slower and purposeful far cry which I love

Re: Far Cry Primal

I enjoyed playing last night. The game definitely sets you on your ear in that you're not the top of the food chain; especially at night. And there's something deeply satisfying about a clean headshot on a human with an arrow. They react so well.

The lack of substantial plot may actually be a boon for the series since it eliminates that sense of urgency open world games try to convey, but can't lock down due to the whims of the player.

And did I mention how fucking gorgeous the game is? I can say without hyperbole that Far Cry is the best looking series on the console market right now.

Re: Far Cry Primal

I agree Kwik. The game is fantastic.
I love how intense the game is. I would go as far to say this game is the best Far Cry yet, meaning it holds the Far Cry name very well and everything that the series has done makes it seem like it was made for this game.
Night is very creepy and I love the way the game looks at night. Seeing the wolves eyes light up from fire is very freaky.
I love how much slower paced it is. You have to have purpose in everything that you do.
I love having my wolf pet and taking out those guys with the bow is very satisfying.
I love seeing the AI at work, seeing "lesser" creatures refusing to attack us because of my wolf and how he holds is ground. Seeing pack of wolves hunt the deer or whatever they are called never gets old.
Seeing wildlife and Mammoths going to streams to get a drink just is so awe inspiring.
Game is fantastic in my book so far!

Re: Far Cry Primal

Here is a screen shot I took, doesn't do it justice since the screen shot is blown up and not true to what is on screen. I am playing with the HUD off which isn't too much but just health and mini map to begin with. It makes it much more immeserive.

Re: Far Cry Primal

I was walking along and watching the setting sun reflect light off of puddles on the ground. It was beautiful. And I also took notice of the light being thrown off by the full moon as I entered a clearing around some rocks. The detail is incredible. And I agree on the little things too, like the reflection of light in a wolf's eyes.

Say what you will about Ubisoft in terms of stale gameplay, they know how to make a game's visuals just look incredible.

Re: Far Cry Primal

Did you get any pets yet Kwik?
I still haven't ventured very far at all. Been trying to get all the "?" areas around the general starting area.
I think I got 11 people living at my camp now. I always fast travel at night there since I am so underpowered right now to survive at night.
The Owl is great and reminds me of Mark of the Kri

Re: Far Cry Primal

Speaking of the Owl, makes me wish for an old western Far Cry or Ubisoft game with killer visuals.
Play as an American Indian, have the animal abilities as well, Being able to see the American landscape unspoiled, roaming buffalo would be a sight to see!

Re: Far Cry Primal

I didn't get anything yet. I'm still really early in. Do you do anything with the ? locations or are they just there to be discovered? I escorted a group of four Wenja to a village last night and quit.

I got stuck out at night and did ok. I did run into a bear that literally tracked me everywhere I ran. It never gave up. I jumped into a lagoon at the bottom of a waterfall and it followed me into the water. While trying to escape the bear, I got attacked by a crocodile. I killed the croc, but the bear was still chasing me. I finally lost it after considerable effort. Good times.

Re: Far Cry Primal

A Wild West Far Cry would be awesome. Maybe if Primal does well, they'll experiment like that.

I love moments like those! I got smoked by a bear last night as well. Those suckers are tough. I think I hit it with 4 arrows and some spears, killed my wolf too.
Crocs always freak me out. I sat watching one last night waiting to see if it would pop out and grab a deer.

The format they have going now, it would be real easy to transfer over to a Wild West setting.

Re: Far Cry Primal

I haven't messed with fire too much, but I did start a fire by accident in a field close to the home camp and it burned for awhile and spread. Seems to be improved but I will have to mess around with it some more.

Re: Far Cry Primal

I got more play time in last night. I got my owl and white wolf companions and I fought back against the Udam after they attacked my camp. All that was pretty fun, but I realized I need to work on more story stuff before I slow to the exploring pace. Takkar starts off so weak, you desperately need upgrades to really enjoy the game.

The lack of any faster method of travel around the map other than fast travel may get old pretty quickly. It reminds me of FC 2 in that respect. Even when you fast travel, it's more hitting the ballpark over surgical precision.

2/25/2016 7:57 am  #28

Re: Far Cry Primal

Yeah they said because of lack of vehicles, there are more fast travel camps to help make up for that.
I didn't play any last night but I hope to do so tonight.

I felt the Owl was pretty cool. helps in scouting and the white wolf is really handy. Chases away lower animals and helps against the Udam quite well. The only time he has died so far for me is a one on one with a bear. I tried taming a bear but I can't yet, too low.

Re: Far Cry Primal

The owl is pretty handy in tagging enemies and picking off one or two guys. That 73 second refresh time is a bitch. I hope some upgrade reduces that significantly. But between him and your beast companion, I can see not getting your hands dirty much.

I did take down a brown bear last night. I sent the wolf to distract him and while they were scuffling, I put two spears in the bear's face that dropped it instantly. I can only do that with bears that are alone. If you run into a group, you're pretty much screwed.
